Fees and Essential Services for Immigrants

Living in Portugal does not mean leaving bureaucratic obligations with Brazil behind. On the contrary: Keeping documents up to date, registering children, resolving legal issues or authorizing travel is part of the routine of many Brazilians abroad. To avoid surprises – and leave home knowing how much you will spend – it is worth knowing the rates charged by Brazilian consulates in the country.

The passport is, by far, the most sought after service at Brazilian consulates – and also the one that weighs the most on your pocket. For people over 18 years of age, a common biometric passport, valid for up to ten years, costs €132. In the case of children and adolescents between four and 17 years old, the value is €88, valid for five years. For children up to three years old, whose validity period varies depending on age, the fee is €44.

When a valid passport is lost, stolen or lost, the cost follows the same criteriavarying only according to the age of the applicant. Some documents linked to specific travel situations, however, are free, such as the Authorization to Return to Brazil (ARB), used in emergencies, and the Travel Authorization for Minors (AVM).

Another highly sought after service is civil registration, especially for families who had children or got married outside Brazil. Birth registration, death registration and marriage registration carried out directly at the consulate are free.

When the marriage was celebrated outside the consular office, transcription in Brazil costs €22. For those who need a duplicate of any civil registration, the fee is €5.50.

Notarial acts concentrate a large part of the demand from Brazilians who maintain legal and patrimonial ties in Brazil. Signature recognition, for example, costs €22. Authentication of the criminal record certificate has a lower cost of €5.50, as well as the authentication of copies of Brazilian documents, charged per unit. In the case of a copy of a foreign passport, the cost rises to €11.

Public powers of attorney, widely used to resolve banking, legal or social security issues in Brazil, also vary depending on the purpose. When intended exclusively for pension collection, they cost €5.50. For other purposes, the value is €22, while issuing a second transfer of the power of attorney costs €11.

Public deeds, such as those of a stable union or other similar acts, cost €16.50. Drawing up a will is one of the most expensive services in this category and costs €33. Among the certificates and declarations, the life certificate, frequently required by Brazilian bodies, costs €5.50, while other consular declarations cost €16.50.

It is worth remembering that payment must be made before the service is provided and can be made in cash (in euros), with a Portuguese debit card – upon insertion of the card – or by MB Way, as long as it is associated with a national debit card. It is not possible to issue documents without prior payment of the fee.
