They order the house arrest of the Venezuelan opponent Guanipa, the first political prisoner of Delcy’s mandate

The Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Pablo Guanipa is at his residence in the city of Maracaibo, capital of the Zulia state (northwest), where he will be under house arrest after being detained on Sunday, hours after his release, his son, Ramón Guanipa, reported this Tuesday in X.

The opposition leader thus becomes the first political prisoner of Delcy Rodríguez’s mandate, arrested the same week that the National Assembly approved the amnesty bill by an absolute majority in its first reading.

“I confirm that my father, Juan Pablo Guanipa, is in my house in Maracaibo. We are relieved to know that my family will be together soon. My father is still unjustly imprisoned, because a prison is still a prison and we demand his full freedom and that of all political prisoners,” explained Ramón Guanipa.

The son of the opposition leader took advantage of his message to thank the United States government, Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their “work in favor of the freedom of Venezuela and all political prisoners.”

Released for a few hours

Guanipa, former deputy and close collaborator of the opposition leader and Nobel Prize winner María Corina Machado, He was released this Sunday from the detention center Helicoid after being detained since May of last year.

His release occurred in the middle of a release process initiated by the Delcy Government on January 8.

After his release from prison, in statements to the press, Guanipa advocated reconciliation in Venezuela, but “with the truth,” and that Venezuela “has the right to be a free country.”

However, that same night He was arrested again by “unidentified men” that they intercepted his vehicle, despite the fact that, his son stated, the precautionary measures imposed in his case only included a ban on leaving the country and appearing in court every 30 days.
