The National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) released this Tuesday, February 10, the audio of a call made by a nine-year-old boy, desperate to save his mother.
“Inside the car, with his mother suddenly unconscious and his two younger twin brothers by his side, he didn’t hesitate: he picked up the phone and dialed 112. His calmness and exemplary collaboration with the emergency medical services were decisive in helping help arrive in time.”said INEM, which praised little Rodrigo’s “courage and lucidity”, “worthy of a true hero”.
“Hello! This is me, my name is Rodrigo, this is my mother who has a problem with her heart and has a pacemaker”began by explaining the child, who responded calmly when the institute’s professionals asked him about his age and location.
The boy confirmed that he was near a bus stop in Malpica do Tejo, and that his mother, aged 35, was passed out and that she had opened her eyes but had closed them again. He also reported that he was with his six-year-old brothers, both sleeping, inside a Ford Focus. Later, when the mother woke up, she realized that her mother was feeling a pain in her heart, and followed the instructions to turn on the four flashing lights, always staying on line until the arrival of emergency medical professionals.
