“Minister of Internal Administration should resign because she is the face of the Government’s failure”

Inês de Sousa Real joins other politicians who are calling for the resignation of the Minister of Internal Administration, such as the former presidential candidate Gouveia e Melo, and the coordinator of the Left Bloc, José Manuel Pureza. “The Minister of Internal Affairs should resign because she is the face of the Government’s failure in the face of major emergency situations: it failed blatantly in last year’s fires and failed again in the storms of recent daysproving that, despite her brilliant academic career and position as Ombudsman, she is not up to the demands of the position”, declared Inês de Sousa Real in a note sent to Diário de Notícias.

The PAN spokesperson addresses the possibility of being António Leitão Amaro, Minister of the Presidency, the replacement for the position and attacks this possible choice in advance: “It is important to emphasize that the replacement will be of no use if the objective is to replace Leitão Amaro, who has an unsuitable profile for the position, not only due to conflicts of interest associated with his family members, but also because during the Civil Protection crises he was more concerned with managing his image on social media, than with being on the ground alongside people and institutions.”

Sousa Real also adds that at the Ministry of Internal Administration there was “a clear casting error” and that Luís Montenegro “preferred to burn a person who was recognized and cherished by the Portuguese.”
