One dead and one injured during repair work on electrical structures in Leiria

A man died this Monday, February 9, and another was injured in a work accident, in Leiria, when they were repairing electrical structures for E-Redes, following the Kristin depression, several sources told Lusa.

According to the Leiria District Command of the Public Security Police (PSP), the fatal victim was 37 years old and the injured man, whose condition was unknown, was 40 years old.

A PSP source said that the worker died from electrocution and both worked for the company Canas, which is providing services to E-Redes in the repair of electrical structures following the bad weather.

Official source from E-Redes, the main operator of the electricity distribution network in mainland Portugal for high, medium and low voltage networks, confirmed that the victims, one dead and one seriously injured, are employees of the company Canas who were working for the operator.

The alert for the work accident, in the Industrial Zone of Cova das Faias, reached the authorities at 9:58 am, via the national emergency number, revealed the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of the Leiria Region, with resources from the PSP, firefighters Sapadores and Leiria Volunteers, the National Institute of Medical Emergency and E-Redes having rushed to the scene.

With the death of this worker, the number of fatalities associated with the bad weather that has ravaged the country rises to 15, with the central region being one of the most affected.
