The show of Bad Bunny in it Super Bowl LX sparked an immediate reaction from the US president Donald Trumpwho described it on his social network as “one of the worst in history.”
His message, full of disdain for the presentation entirely in Spanish, stated that “no one understands a word” of the artist and that the choreography was “disgusting,” especially for minors who were following the broadcast.
For the Republican magnate, the show not only lacked “excellence,” but also symbolized a “slap” to the United States at a time when, according to him, the country is experiencing “new economic records.”
The presidential criticism came as the Super Bowl unfolded under an unusually charged political environment. Although immigration agents were present as “security,” they made no arrests.
Even so, the event became a showcase for the immigration debate: groups distributed between 15,000 and 25,000 towels with the slogan “ICE OUT” and deployed urban interventions inspired by symbols associated with Bad Bunny himself. The protest sought to take advantage of the global visibility of the meeting to denounce abuses and demand greater transparency.
In the sporting field, the clash between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks took a backseat to the symbolic weight of the spectacle. The intermission became a display of Latin identity: more than twelve minutes of music in Spanish, sets inspired by the Caribbean and dozens of regional flags that highlighted the Puerto Rican origin of the protagonist.
Added to this was the presence of Ricky Martin and Lady Gaga, whose participation reinforced the atmosphere of diversity that marked one of the most talked about Super Bowl performances in recent years.
