Valeria Chomsky apologizes for connection to Jeffrey Epstein: ‘Serious mistake’

Valeria Chomsky, wife of intellectual Noam Chomsky, broke her silence about the couple’s connection to the late sexual abuser Jeffrey Epstein, classifying the proximity as a “serious mistake” and an “oversight” resulting from “manipulation”.

In an extensive press release, Valeria described a process in which Epstein infiltrated the couple’s social circle under the pretext of being a philanthropist interested in science.

According to the statement, Noam Chomsky and herself were deceived by a narrative constructed by Epstein, in which he presented himself as a victim of unfair persecution. The philosopher, known for his critical stance towards the Western judicial and political system, believed “in good faith” in Epstein’s allegations before the true extent of his crimes were revealed in 2019.

The text states that Interactions included dinners and the use of lodgings belonging to Epstein in cities such as New York and Paris. The couple also visited Epstein’s ranch in New Mexico.

However, Valeria categorically says that they never visited Epstein’s private island, a central location in many of the reports of abuse, and that they were completely unaware of his criminal history during the period they lived together.

Financial clarification

One of the most sensitive points in the statement refers to previously reported financial transactions. Valeria Chomsky explained that Jeffrey Epstein facilitated the recovery of $270,000 (approximately €250,000) from Noam Chomsky’s retirement funds that were under threat of loss.

Furthermore, a check for 20 thousand dollars related to a “linguistic challenge”. For Valeria, these actions were deliberate maneuvers by Epstein to create a debt of gratitude and cement his influence over the couple.

Recovering from a stroke

Noam Chomsky, currently 97 years old, is recovering from a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) suffered in 2023. According to Valeria, before his health condition worsened, the philosopher already shared this deep regret.

This new clarification comes at a time when public opinion is once again scrutinizing prominent figures linked to Epstein, following the declassification of new court documents detailing the financier’s network of contacts.
