Pope Leo XIV calls for solidarity with flood victims in Portugal, Spain, Morocco and Italy

Pope Leo XIV called for solidarity with the populations affected by storms and floods in Portugal, Spain, Morocco and Italy. “I pray for the populations of Portugal, Morocco, Spain, in particular Grazalema, in Andalusia, and southern Italy, especially in Niscemi, Sicily, affected by floods and landslides”, declared the leader of the Catholic Church in the Angelus prayer from the window of the Apostolic Palace, in the Vatican this Sunday, February 8th.

The pope appealed to the population to help and show solidarity with those affected. “I encourage communities to remain united and in solidarity with the maternal protection of the Virgin Mary”, concluded.

The storms of recent days with intense rain and wind hit several regions of Spain, such as Andalusia, where the municipality of Grazalema had to be completely evacuated. Also on the Italian island of Sicily, the commune of Niscemi was affected by landslides that left an entire neighborhood on the edge of an abyss created by the collapse of the ground..
