Portuguese-Venezuelan Manuel Enrique Ferreira González, leader of the political party Vente Venezuela, detained since July, was released, confirmed this Sunday, February 8, the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE).
“Portugal welcomes the release of Portuguese-Venezuelan Manuel Enrique Ferreira, detained since July 2025. It expresses deep solidarity with the family in this long-awaited reunion”, reads a message published by the ministry.
This doctor and party leader was arrested in the state of Lara, accused of the crimes of incitement to hatred and association to commit crimes.
He was detained at the Detention Center in Tocuyito, Carabobo state.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that Portugal “will continue to work for the release of political prisoners detained in Venezuela”.
On Wednesday, the Government welcomed the release of Portuguese-Venezuelan Jaime Reis Macedo, who had also been detained since July 2025 by the authorities of the Bolivarian Republic.
Previously, he had already announced the release of doctor Pedro Javier Rodriguez, 43, who was detained for opposition activity on social media for three months.
The Portuguese-Venezuelan Carla Rosaura da Silva Marrero, sentenced to more than 20 years in prison in Venezuela, has also been released, according to previous information from the MNE.
