The body of a man washed up on Salgueiros beach, in Gaia, this Sunday, February 8. The authorities suspect that the body is that of a Brazilian citizen, Euzébio Souza Filhomissing on the Douro River since January 30th.
To Lusa, the deputy commander of the Captaincy of Douro, Pedro Cervaensrevealed that there is “strong evidence” regarding the identity of the body, especially because the physiognomy is very similar. However, according to the person responsible, confirmation will only be possible after an examination has been carried out at the Porto Legal Medicine Institute.
The body has already been sent for examination and the Judicial Police (PJ) was also called to the scene. The Brazilian citizen has been missing since January 30, on the Douro River, when the vessel he was traveling in sank.
The vessel’s second crew member managed to swim to land. The wrecked boat washed up on a beach in Vila do Conde last Monday.
Since his disappearance, friends in Portugal and Brazil have called for the search for the immigrant to be intensified. An Instagram profile was also created to give visibility to the case and request donations to help with search and rescue operations. In the latest updates to the page, on Saturday, the despair of the Brazilian’s family, who are following the case from a distance, is reported.
