Travel Book by Relais & Châteaux gives Portugal a voice

The Yeatman, in Vila Nova de Gaia, and the Burel Chiado store, belonging to the owners of Relais & Châteaux Casa de São Lourenço, in Serra da Estrela, received the official presentation of the new travel guide from Relais & Chateaux. The French association, which has been in existence for over 70 years, has published for the fourth year a guide that aims to present and celebrate the destinations where its 580 properties are based, all over the world.

Rui Silva, director of Relais & Châteaux for Spain and Portugal, recalled during both presentations some of the association’s key values, as well as the recent commitments made in partnership with UNESCO, to try to minimize the negative impact of tourism on the environment and territories. “Portugal is today one of the countries where Relais & Châteaux best expresses its diversity and identity. We have members in several regions – from Lisbon and Porto to Douro, Dão, Alentejo, Algarve and Madeira – who represent different forms of hospitality, all closely linked to the territory. These are projects that show how luxury can be authentic, rooted and deeply Portuguese”, noted the person in charge.

“Sustainability has been part of Relais & Châteaux’s DNA for many years, and here, this is particularly visible. Members apply the commitments made by the association, in partnership with UNESCO, on a daily basis: protection of biodiversity, sustainable cuisine, appreciation of local producers and positive impact on communities”continued.
