Navy rescued eight crew members from a fishing vessel that was sailing without power off São Miguel

The Portuguese Navy revealed this Saturday, February 7, that it rescued eight crew members from a fishing vessel that was sailing without power around 30 nautical miles from the Azorean island of São Miguel.

In a statement, the Navy said that after the alert was given through the Ponta Delgada Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Delgada), it had been coordinating since 9:05 am (minus one in Lisbon) on Friday the search for the Spanish-flagged fishing vessel Caixa Velho, which was sailing the equivalent of around 60 kilometers south of the island of São Miguel.

A power failure on board was then identified, making it impossible to contact the shipowner. “After establishing communications, the vessel was monitored until Ponta Delgada, where it ended up docking safely, today [este sábado]at 8:40 am”, says the statement.
