Gaza exceeds 72,000 deaths and hospitals warn of critical lack of medicine

The death toll in the Gaza Strip has already exceeded 72,000, declared the Ministry of Health of the Palestinian enclave. It also highlights that in the last 24 hours two more people died and 25 were injured in Israeli attacks. The data was revealed this Saturday, February 7th.

Since the start of the war in Gaza, Israeli attacks left 72,027 dead and 171,651 injuredaccording to data from the enclave’s health authorities. The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that 576 Palestinians have died in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since the start of the ceasefire agreement signed on October 10 and that 1,543 were injured in that same period.

Health authorities in the enclave also warned that reserves of most medicines and medical supplies in hospitals across the Gaza Strip are exhausted. “The hospitals still operating in the Gaza Strip, struggling to continue providing services, have become mere waiting centers for thousands of sick and injured people facing an uncertain fate.“, warned health officials.

According to the Palestinian Ministry, “46% of essential medicines are in short supply, 66% of medical supplies are in short supply and 84% of laboratory supplies and blood banks are at zero”.Oncology, hematology, surgery, operations, intensive care and primary care services are among those most affected by the crisis, and “the limited quantities of medicines that reach the sector’s hospitals are insufficient to meet the real needs of the provision of health services”.

The war between Israel and the Islamist group Hamas began on October 7, 2023, after an attack by the Islamist movement on Israeli territory, which left around 1,200 dead and more than 250 kidnapped. In retaliation, Israel invaded the Gaza Strip. Subsequently, a ceasefire agreement, brokered by the US, was signed on October 10, 2025, although Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip continue.
