Families living in social housing in the Municipality of Marinha Grande, in the district of Leiria, are exempt from payment this month, due to the impact of the Kristin depression.
In a press release released this Saturday, February 7, the municipality reveals that “it has taken more extraordinary social support measures, aimed at alleviating the financial strain of families in the municipality, in a particularly demanding context due to the effects of Storm Kristin”.
Thus, “it determined the total suspension of payment of social housing rents for the month of February 2026, a measure that aims to support households with greater economic difficulties”.
“The objective is to guarantee housing stability and security, avoiding situations of non-compliance during this exceptional period”, explains the chamber chaired by Paulo Vicente.
The municipality has 265 social housing units, a source from the municipality told the Lusa agency.
The chamber also ordered the suspension of payment for TUMG – Transportes Urbanos da Marinha Grande tickets until February 15, allowing “all passengers to use urban transport free of charge”.
“This initiative seeks to ensure the mobility of those who depend on public transport for essential trips, namely work, health or education”, he says, noting that, due to operational constraints, TUMG’s urban service continues “to operate in a restricted manner during the next week”.
Therefore, the Green 2, Red 9 and Purple 11 lines are temporarily suspended. In full operation, and with reinforcement and extension of timetables, are the Green 1, Red 10 and Purple 12 lines.
The remaining lines maintain normal operation.
