An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale was recorded this Saturday, February 7, on the island of Santa Maria, in the Azores, more specifically 20 kilometers northeast of the parish of Santa Bárbara.
In a statement, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) reveals that the tremor was recorded at 6:17 pm local time (7:17 pm in Lisbon) at the stations of the Azores Seismic Network.
The event did not cause personal or material damage.
Another earthquake, measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale, was also recorded on the Formigas islets, a group of eight uninhabited volcanic rocks located between the islands of Santa Maria and São Miguel.
