Storm Marta is coming and will start by affecting the Sado river area and then the Tagus and Mondego

In summary, the minister said that Thursday was a worrying day on the Tagus River, due to discharges in Spanish dams, namely the large Spanish Alcantara dam, which caused the flow to almost double.

This Friday it is already lower (this afternoon the flow was 6,700 cubic meters per second in Almourol, when the critical point is 10,000). On Thursday it reached 9,000 cubic meters.

Maria da Graça Carvalho stated that everything is being done to ensure that the impact of the Marta depression is as small as possible, but admitted that it may be necessary to evacuate more places.

The president of APA, Pimenta Machado, also spoke of the “exceptional times” that the country is experiencing and gave as an example the dams in the Algarve that never filled and that are now releasing releases and said that the Santa Clara dam, in the southwest of Alentejo, will also release releases. Monte da Rocha, in the Sado basin, will discharge.

For this Friday and Saturday there is a high risk of flooding in the Vouga, Águeda, Mondego, Tagus, Sorraia and Sado rivers. The Lima, Cávado, Ave, Douro, Tâmega, Lis and Guadiana rivers are also at risk of flooding (not high).
