The Minister of Agriculture and the Sea sent a letter on Thursday to the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food asking for the activation of the crisis reserve for agriculture, the ministry said in a statement this Friday, 6th.
José Manuel Fernandes’ request to the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen, came in light of preliminary estimates that point to losses of around 500 million euros in the agricultural sector, caused by bad weather.
This European mechanism allows for a rapid response in the event of crises affecting agricultural production or distribution, with a total annual allocation for the union of 450 million euros.
