The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested, in Portimão, 10 suspects of international drug trafficking and seized 1,300 kilos of cocaine, in an operation in collaboration with the Maritime Police and the authorities of Spain and Denmark, this police force announced on Thursday.
This Friday, the 6th, the PJ revealed that the alleged drug traffickers arrested as part of this operation used a hearse to transport cocaine in the region without arousing suspicion.
“During the different phases, [essa organização] what he carried out was discreet transport using a hearse, which moved the drugs between the vessel and the retreat house”, said, at a press conference, criminal investigator coordinator Vítor Ananias.
According to the head of the PJ’s National Unit to Combat Drug Trafficking (UNCTE), the drugs were unloaded at the Portimão marina and then transported to “a residence close to Portimão”, presumably with Denmark as its final destination, where nine of the 10 detained in Portimão are nationals.
In the “Valhalla” operation, carried out by the Central Unit to Combat Drug Trafficking (UNCTE) and which also had the collaboration of the MAOC (N) – Maritime Analysis and Operations Center (Narcotics), 1,300 kilos of cocaine, two vessels and three vehicles were seized on national territory, with the support of the Faro Directorate and the Criminal Investigation Department of the PJ.
A police source told Lusa that the detainees are of Danish nationality.
At the same time, and as part of this investigation, a woman was also arrested in Copenhagen, and 21 house searches were also carried out in Danish territory.
