TAP will have direct flights to São Luís do Maranhão

Another Brazilian city will have a direct flight route with Lisbon. TAP announced this Thursday, February 5th, the connection between the Portuguese capital and São Luís, in Maranhão. The trips will take place twice a week, starting on October 26th.

The flights will be operated with Airbus A321LR aircraft, with capacity for 16 passengers in business class and 155 in economy class. Departures from Lisbon will take place on Mondays and Thursdays, at 7:05 pm, with arrival at 12:10 am the following day.

The return will be on Tuesdays and Fridays, departing at 01:40 am and stop in Fortaleza at 03:00. The new takeoff will take place at 4:30 am, arriving in Lisbon at 2:50 pm.

According to Mário Chaves, COO of TAP Air Portugal, new exchange opportunities will be generated with the country. “The launch of the Lisbon–São Luís route represents another strategic step in strengthening our network of destinations between Europe and Brazil. We are expanding connectivity from our hub in Lisbon with the northeast of Brazil, creating new opportunities for tourism, business and cultural exchange between Brazil and Portugal“, he highlights, cited in a statement.

Carlos Brandão, governor of Maranhão, celebrated the news. “This is another important achievement for our tourism sector, which is growing every day. With this new TAP route, we are shortening the distance between Europe and Maranhão. With this flight, Maranhão expands its international presence and awakens interest in our culture, gastronomy, history and natural beauty. This will undoubtedly have positive impacts on tourism and the state’s economy.”, he stated.

Flights are now on sale, starting at 368 euros. The capital of Maranhão becomes the 15th Brazilian city served by direct TAP flights. The news comes one day after the airline announce the increase in the frequency of trips between Lisbon and Porto Alegrecapital of Rio Grande do Sul.
