WASHINGTON.—This Thursday, the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukeleattended the National Prayer Breakfasta forum held in Washington where the American president, Donald Trumpoffered a speech to those in attendance.
Salvadoran sources confirmed the presence of Bukele, a close ally of Trump, at the event, whose attendance had not been announced in advance.
“We are also pleased to welcome visiting leaders and dignitaries from more than 110 countries. They are here, including one of my favorite people, President Bukele of El Salvador. He has been incredible. He has been a great ally of this country,” Trump declared during his speech.

Bukele, Trump ally
Bukele is one of the main allies of the Trump Administration in the region and has been praised by the Republican president and his circle for his tough policy against gangs, criticized by human rights organizations.
Trump received the Salvadoran leader in April of last year at the Oval Office of the White Housebecoming the first Latin American leader to meet with the Republican in his second term.

The visit was marked by the controversial sending of more than 200 migrants, mostly Venezuelans, to El Salvador’s high-security prison, Cecot, accused by Washington of belonging to criminal gangs.
Among the people sent to that center was the Salvadoran Kilmar Ábrego Garcíaa migrant who had a court order protecting him from being deported from the United States.
The US Justice ordered his return to the North American country, something that occurred in June, making Ábrego García a symbol against Trump’s immigration policy.
He National Prayer Breakfast is an annual event founded in 1953 that takes place at the hotel Hilton de Washington the first Thursday in February.
In addition to Bukele, among others, the United States Secretary of War, Pete Hegsethand the attorney general of the United States, Pam Bondi.
