Cuca Roseta receives Order of Arts and Letters: Fado recognized by France

For the fado singer, French recognition takes on a very special meaning, not only because of France’s cultural richness, but also because of the historical symbolism that the country represents in the international journey of great names in Portuguese culture. “It’s a different recognition, coming from a country with such a high cultural level, which has always been a kind of gateway to the world”she stated, confessing that this distinction is, most likely, the one that made her feel “most recognized” throughout her career.

Cuca Roseta also highlighted the symbolic coincidence between the awarding of the decoration and the release of his album in French, explaining that the project was born precisely from the desire of “bringing the feeling of fado to French song”, as proposed by Jean-Jacques Lafaye. For the artist, this crossover between fado and French music reflects the spirit of cultural dialogue that the distinction now received also aims to celebrate.

The fado singer did not hide her emotion when remembering that this order was attributed to major figures of Portuguese culture, such as Amália Rodrigues and António Lobo Antunesconsidering it an immense honor to see his name associated with this legacy. “Reaching this point in my career, 15 years into it, and receiving this distinction is a huge happiness. I have no words to describe it”, he stated.
