Army says that the intervention of Engineering resources in Vieira de Leiria was coordinated with Civil Protection

The Portuguese Army clarified in a statement that the intervention of its Engineering resources in Vieira de Leiria, on January 30, was previously planned and carried out within the scope of Civil Protection, under the coordination of the competent authorities.

The reinforcement involved three Engineering Detachments, mobilized after indication from the Land Forces Command and directed to Vieira de Leiria by decision of the Marinha Grande Volunteer Firefighters, who defined this location as a priority.

On the ground, the military carried out actions to clean roads, cut trees and clear access roads.

After completing the priority tasks, the Detachments were demobilized, with one of them remaining in Vieira de Leiria until February 4th and the rest in Marinha Grande until February 3rd.

The Army reaffirms that its support to the populations is complementary, of a humanitarian and logistical nature, and remains fully available to continue collaborating according to identified needs.
