US claims shooting of Iranian drone that was heading for aircraft carrier “USS Abraham Lincoln” in the Arabian Sea

The Central Command of the United States (US) armed forces indicated this Tuesday, February 3, that a US Navy fighter shot down an Iranian drone that was approaching the aircraft carrier “USS Abraham Lincoln” in the Arabian Sea.

In a statement, Central Command reported that the drone “aggressively approached” the US aircraft carrier with “unclear intent” and continued to fly toward the ship before being shot down by an F-35 fighter.

The US military regretted that this incident occurred “despite the de-escalation measures” adopted by its forces, which “operated in international waters”.

According to Central Command, the shooting down of the Iranian drone occurred just hours after Islamic Republic forces harassed an American-flagged merchant ship with crew sailing in the Strait of Hormuz.
