Support up to 10 thousand euros. Online registration platform should be available between today and Wednesday

Already asked whether the amount will be sufficient given the damage caused by the storms to many homes, Paulo Fernandes said that this amount will be enough for “a first intervention”, remembering that there is also coverage from insurance companies.

Starting next week, he explained, there will be a team of more than a hundred people, including “engineers, architects, estimators”, who will help with the reconstruction process.

Regarding the lack of labor for this reconstruction, he called for available resources to be concentrated in these areas.

“We currently have the first teams to support the municipalities for what are emergency interventions in terms of placing tarpaulin, but, obviously, it is the municipalities that are determining where the first priorities are”he stated.

According to the president of the mission structure, for these urgent tasks, “the first three teams will start working today” especially in the three most affected municipalities, Pombal, Leiria and Marinha Grande, with the objective being to reach a dozen municipalities.

Ten people have died since last week following bad weather. Civil Protection recorded five deaths directly associated with the passage of the Kristin depression and the Câmara da Marinha Grande announced another fatality, to which were added four deaths recorded due to falls from roofs (during repairs) or poisoning originating from a generator.

The total or partial destruction of homes, businesses and equipment, falling trees and structures, cuts or restrictions on roads and transport services, especially railway lines, the closure of schools and power, water and communications cuts are the main material consequences of the storm, which caused hundreds of injuries and displacement.

Leiria, Coimbra and Santarém are the districts with the most damage.

The Government declared a state of calamity until next Sunday for 69 municipalities and announced a package of support measures of up to 2.5 billion euros.
