It was in José Guerreiro’s office that someone opened their mouth and proposed the name that is now cursed. It seemed harmless, it was international and no one would be upset. The president of IPMA seemed fine. He called his European colleagues and everyone approved that the storm that southern European meteorologists predicted would arrive in Portugal more powerfully than anywhere else would be a girl. The “K” is not a letter of the alphabet that we know, but it is an obligatory scribble almost everywhere and worked as an alibi, so no one would be upset at having their name associated with revenge… even if it was natural. In his office near Humberto Delgado Airport, José toasted the name Kristin and never thought about it again. But names are magical and that one remained out of sight until, on January 27th, meteorologists entered the president’s office with the news that the girl had already been born and seemed not to be joking around. In the x-ray of the maps it was accompanied by God or hell – for us, privileged with good beaches, cuttlefish stews and sunshine almost all year round, bringing one or the other, for different reasons, is not good news. José Guerreiro, without undermining a nobleman from Lisbon, a renowned biologist and specialist in environmental management, has never again considered the subject, but he is the girl’s father and has a duty to take charge of it. If so, if not, take her to the notary and name her Warrior. It may calm down and the skies will return to being calm and predictable.
