Several districts on the continent and the archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores will again be under warnings from this Tuesday, February 3, due to wind, rain, sea disturbances and snowfall due to a new depression, according to the IPMA.
Mainland Portugal will begin to feel the effects of the Leonardo depression “initially with the approach to Baixo Alentejo and Algarve of a frontal system associated with it, from the end of the afternoon” this Tuesday, “with persistent and sometimes strong precipitation and gusts of wind that can reach 75 kilometers/hour on the coast south of Cabo Mondego and 95 kilometers/hour in the highlands”.
The frontal system will gradually extend to other regions of the continent during Wednesday, with “the period with higher accumulated precipitation values and more intense wind expected to be at night” from Wednesday to Thursday.
Due to this weather forecast, IPMA issued a yellow warning for the districts of Faro, Setúbal and Beja due to sometimes heavy and persistent rain between 6pm today and 3pm on Wednesday and 9pm on Wednesday and 9am on Thursday.
The IPMA also placed the districts of Santarém, Lisbon, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Coimbra and Portalegre under yellow warning due to the forecast of sometimes heavy and persistent rain between 9pm on Wednesday and 9am on Thursday.
The districts of Faro, Setúbal, Lisbon and Leiria will also be under yellow warning between 9pm today and 12pm on Wednesday and between 6am and 3pm on Thursday due to the expected strong wind, with gusts of up to 70/80 km/h and up to 95 km/h expected in the mountains.
Due to the strong wind with gusts of up to 90 km/h and up to 100 km/h in the mountains, the IPMA issued a yellow warning for the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Porto, Guarda, Faro, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday.
IPMA also placed the districts of Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Castelo Branco, Coimbra and Braga under orange warning due to snowfall above 800/1000 meters until 6pm today.
The districts of Porto, Faro, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga are also under orange warning due to the state of the sea until 00:00 on Tuesday and between 12:00 and 19:00 on Thursday, with waves from the northwest measuring 5 to 6 meters being expected and reaching a maximum height of 11 meters.
