Presidential candidate António José Seguro demanded this Tuesday, February 3, that the support announced to respond to the impacts of Storm Kristin reach the ground quickly, warning that he will spare no effort to make this happen and that he will be vigilant.
For the first time accompanied by the media, Seguro visited this morning an industrial area in Proença-a-Nova, Castelo Branco, which was affected by storm Kristin, explaining to journalists that he wants to “keep the need for the support that was announced to quickly reach the places where it is needed”.
“Reality is the biggest pressure. People are distressed, they need this support. I don’t understand what the question is. They have to arrive quickly”, he said, considering that it is to those who are responsible for getting the support that the question needs to be addressed about the fact that this has not yet happened.
Asked whether he would consider speaking to the Government, still as a candidate, about this topic, the candidate with the most votes in the first round of the presidential elections admitted that he would, if it was “useful to guarantee and help that support can arrive”, but that at this moment he still does not see the need for this to happen.
“I will not spare any work that I can develop or action that I can carry out so that, in fact, the support reaches the ground”, he promised.
Seguro also left a promise in case of victory in the second round of the presidential elections that will take place on Sunday.
“Immediately after taking office, return to these areas that were greatly affected – and not just with this catastrophe, also with fires – but above all check whether the support that was announced actually arrived. One of the functions of the President of the Republic is to be vigilant, to monitor whether things actually happen as promised”, he committed.
The candidate supported by the PS also explained that he decided to come today accompanied by the media – in the first few days he made visits alone to affected areas – because he did not come to “hinder the work of civil protection”, which he said was “coordinated and articulated with the mayor” of Proença-a-Nova, who accompanies him on this visit.
