The city of Porto Alegre will now have another direct flight to Lisbon with the Portuguese airline TAP. Starting next July, there will be four weekly flights connecting the capital of Rio Grande do Sul to Portugal, with the new route operating on Mondays.
The announcement was made by the governor of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, and the director of TAP for the Americas, Carlos Antunes. “The new flights reinforce the historical, cultural and economic ties that unite us and expand exchange opportunities. We want more and more people to get to know our Rio Grande do Sul”said Leite in the press release.

The flight between Porto Alegre and Lisbon is the only one that connects the state of Rio Grande do Sul to Europe and was suspended after the floods devastated Rio Grande do Sul in 2024. In April last year, the operation was resumed. At that time, the company had expressed interest in expanding operations in southern Brazil.
“We kept our word and, less than a year later, we presented a new investment. We work continuously to be the main connection between the State and Europe, in addition to bringing travelers from more than 50 countries where we operate to discover the beauty and cultural richness of Rio Grande do Sul”, highlighted Carlos Antunes, quoted in the statement.
The new flight will open on July 6th, with the expectation that it will increase the number of passengers between Brazil and Portugal during the European summer. Trips to Porto Alegre had been suspended in 2024, after the floods that hit Rio Grande do Sul. The operation was resumed in April last year.
