The Coordinating Committee for Football Emergencies met this Monday for the first time to define support measures following the strong storms that hit Portugal in recent days, with a special focus on the Central Region. The meeting brought together representatives from Portuguese Football Federationdo Players’ Unionyes Portuguese Leagueyes National Football Coaches Association and from Plenary Table of District and Regional Football Associations.
The main objective of the meeting was to respond to the consequences of the bad weather in terms of the operational needs of the clubs, the conditions of the players and the damage to sports infrastructures, as well as define lines of action that allow preventing and mitigating the impacts of similar situations in the future.
Among the decisions taken, the opening, by the Portuguese Football Federation, of a Catastrophe Fund worth 100 thousand euros, intended to support clubs directly affected. It was also decided to partial allocation of revenue from the national team A friendly game, scheduled for June 10, Portugal Day, to the district and regional associations and clubs affected.
The commission also decided to articulate and monitor, together with the Government, the Development Bank mechanisms to be channeled to the affected sports entities, as well as working in coordination with the Mission Structure for the Reconstruction of the Central Region of the Country. It is also planned to hold specific meetings with the district and regional associations and with the affected clubs.
