Presidential candidate André Ventura stated this Sunday that the Government’s response and support program for the areas affected by the storm is a “failure across the board”, accusing the executive of “making fun of people”.
Before participating in a campaign action in Vila Verde, in the district of Braga, André Ventura considered that the support program announced on this day by the Government is “a failure across the board on the part of the Government”.
The presidential candidate considered that the Government is “making fun of people”, whether in the prevention work, in the delay in mobilizing the military, or in the support announced today.
“When limits of 500 euros or 530 euros are established to help people [537 euros]this can only be mocking the population”, he said.
André Ventura was referring to the support established by the Council of Ministers for families in need or loss of income, who will be able to access Social Security support of up to 537 euros per person or 1,075 euros per household.
Speaking to journalists, André Ventura focused mainly on these values, giving the idea that these would be the support to which people who “lost everything” would be entitled, considering that reconstruction “cannot be [com] support of 500 euros or support of a thousand euros”.
However, according to the Council of Ministers, support for the reconstruction of permanent housing will reach up to ten thousand euros.
In view of the support announced, the presidential candidate considered that “it would have been better for the Government to have remained silent today”, accusing the executive led by Luís Montenegro of providing a response far below what was needed.
“When you have the opportunity [de falar com o primeiro-ministro] I will say that I think it is one of the darkest and most unsuccessful days in the history of this Government”, he stressed.
