PS demands action from the Government and criticizes lack of coordination in the response to storm Kristin

“The information that comes from the field is information of abandonment and lack of coordination. It is important that the Government uses the instruments of Civil Protection, the direction of the Prime Minister, the intervention and coordination also of the Minister of Internal Administration, so that a coordinated intervention can be seen on the ground”, he said.

The socialist deputy also criticized the Government’s decision not to have resorted to the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (EUCPM), with the justification that national resources are not exhausted.

“Until now, one of the scarcest goods is energy generators. The European mechanism allows the use of generators. The Government said it had enough in Portugal, but we continue to hear populations saying they need generators”, counters the socialist deputy.

Asked about the President of the Republic’s suggestion that an independent technical commission be created to carry out an assessment of the passage of the Kristin depression through mainland Portugal, after the “critical response period”, Brilhante Dias admitted that this assessment could be made later.

“At this moment it is important to mobilize public and private resources to help people. We ask the Government, in this moment of great emergency, with the institutional solidarity that is due at this moment, to activate the mechanisms it has”, he insisted.
