Castro visited the little boy and his father, Adrián Conejo Arias, on Wednesday at the Dilley migrant family detention center, located in south-central Texas.
“His father says that (the boy) is not the same, that he is sleeping a lot because he has been depressed and sad,” said the Democratic representative from Texas in a video he published on the social network X.
The legislator maintains that the family is in the country in legal conditions and that both must be released.
Concerned about their mental and physical health
““I’m worried about his mental health.”added the legislator.
On Tuesday, a federal judge temporarily blocked Liam and his father from being deported from the country.
According to press reports, both have a pending process in immigration court.
The judge also prevented both from being taken from the detention center where they are in Dilley, a place where migrant families with minor children detained under accusation of violate the laws of entry into the country.
A hundred people demonstrated on Wednesday in front of that facility, before being dispersed with tear gas by law enforcement, according to AFP journalists.
