António José Seguro defends separation between campaign and support for victims of storm Kristin

“I heard the statements made by the president of Leiria City Council and they do not fit my behavior. The behavior I have had is constant and permanent contact with the mayors and recognize that, on the same day, I was on the ground, but I made a clear separation between what the electoral campaign is and what is my duty as a Portuguese and as a candidate for the President of the Republic, was to go and talk to people and see the damage”, he told journalists in the municipality of Felgueiras, district of Porto, before a lunch with supporters.

One week before the elections, the presidential candidate said he intends to continue on the same path. “And that’s where I will continue. And, do me justice, I already did the same when the fires broke out in the summer. I visited several municipalities in the country without media”, he said, at a time when, since the early hours of Wednesday, he had been to the field several times, alone and without informing journalists.

At lunch at the Casa do Povo in Vila Cova da Lixa, António José Seguro said the country seems to have not learned the past. “It seems that we haven’t learned from other situations that occurred in the recent past. The issue of fires. The issue of blackouts, the issue of emergency medical assistance, what happened at Elevador da Glória”he stated. And he said that the State cannot have “feet of clay”.

Seguro also asked the Government to extend the deadlines for fulfilling tax and administrative obligations following the storm that left many citizens homeless, especially in the districts of Leiria, Coimbra and Santarém.

“I also want to leave a new proposal. Ask the Government to extend the deadlines for tax and administrative compliance requirements, particularly in the municipalities that are most affected and are under calamity”.
