The U.S. Justice Department has released the latest in a massive batch of documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a release ordered by Congress that reveals new details about the moneylenders’ syndicates but contains no criminal charges against the named high-profile figures.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche made the announcement on Friday release more than three million pages, 2,000 videos and 180,000 images, although he noted “extensive” editorials to protect the identities of the victims and the ongoing investigation.
The cache of records, which came more than a month after a congressional deadline, concludes the Trump administration’s obligation under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
High profile names are emerging
The new documents, obtained from the FBI’s investigation and Epstein’s own records, include emails that show Tesla CEO Elon Musk discussing plans to visit Epstein’s private island. In late 2013, Musk emailed Epstein that he would be in St. Barts and asked about “good time to visit,” with Epstein offering to send his helicopter. The visit did not take place, and Musk has publicly stated that he has never traveled to the island.
In a separate email from 2013, Epstein sent himself a document in the form of a resignation letter from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in which he made sensational and unverified claims that Gates had sought help. getting drugs “to deal with the consequences of having sex with Russian girls.” A spokesman for Gates dismissed the claim as “totally absurd and totally false.”
The files also indicate continued contact between Epstein and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick until 2018, contradicting Lutnick’s previous claim that he severed ties in 2005. Unconfirmed tips against Trump
Part of the cache contains summaries of tips sent to the FBI’s public tip line that contain unsubstantiated allegations of wrongdoing by President Trump in connection with Epstein. The Ministry of Justice preceded the release by stating that some documents “contain false and sensational claims against President Trump,” which she marked “baseless and untrue.”
AG Blanche emphasized that a review of Epstein’s personal emails did not reveal any suggestion by Epstein that Trump “has committed a criminal act or had any inappropriate contact with any of his victims.” Instead, the emails show Epstein frequently belittling Trump and calling him names “stupid” and questioning his mental fitness.
DOJ rejects cover-up claims
At a press conference, Blanche defended the delayed release, citing the monumental task of revising millions of pages. He strongly denied claims of a cover-up.
“There is no tranche of top secret documents that we are withholding,” he said, adding that the White House had “no supervision” over the review process.
The release also includes new material regarding Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence, including her mugshot and naturalization certificate listing her occupation as Epstein. “manager.” It follows a recent court filing by Maxwell, who claims 29 of Epstein’s alleged accomplices avoided prosecution, mostly through collusion — a claim Blanche said he was unaware of.
