A report released by the Center for Foreign Affairs and International Studies (CSIS) shows that the number of dead, wounded or missing soldiers on both sides of the war in Ukraine is currently 1.8 million and could be expected to rise to 2,000 in the spring, as Russia will be nearly 1.2 million dead – including 325,000 dead soldiers between the 2025 fever and all major losses since the end of World War II in December war.
“Given allegations of influence on the battlefield in Ukraine, data shows Russia is paying an extraordinary price for the smallest gains and is in retreat as a great power,” read a CSIS report found by Seth G. Jones, president of the think tank’s Department of Defense and Security, and Riley McCabe of the Programa de Guerra, Ameareseaças.
The document says that in Ukraine, with a smaller army and a smaller population, between 500,000 and 600,000 soldiers suffered, including at least 140,000 dead.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this fourth day, January 28, that this estimate cannot be considered “credible information” and that only the Russian Ministry of Defense is authorized to provide information on military casualties.
CSIS data is compiled through CSIS analysis, data published on the independent news site Russian Media Zone with the BBC, UK government estimates and interviews with government officials.
These figures have risen less than a month after the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and above, as we continue to negotiate peace between the EU, Russia and Ukraine, while continuing to fight on the ground.
