Residential travel in Portugal increased by 8% in Q3 2025.

Resident travel growth in Portugal will take place in the third quarter of 2025 with a similar increase of 8%, up to 22.1% in the previous quarter, with internal displacement increasing by 9.1% and then by 2.1%.

The top reasons for travel between July and September continue to be “leisure, recreation or vacation”, accounting for 5.7 million trips (64.3% of the total, -3.4 percentage points in the third quarter of 2024), and “visiting family or friends”, accounting for 2.6 million trips by residents (29.1% of the total, +3.0 percentage points from the first quarter of the previous year).

The number of accommodation options, or “free private accommodation”, is maintained as the main option (54.1% of sleeping accommodation), covering 26.0 million sleeping places for a resident’s trips.

Hotels and similar hotels account for 24.4% of sleep (11.8 million), mostly related to travel for “professional or business reasons.”

In the third quarter of 2025, each trip will have an average duration of 5.42 notes (5.62 in the third quarter of 2024), with the longest average duration recorded in August (6.22 notes; 6.39 in August 2024) and last in September (3.60 notes; 3.92 in September 2024).

Between July and September last year, 40.6% of Fize’s population will be less than a tourist destination, which is +0.7 percentage points over the same period in 2024.

In the monthly analysis and in homologous terms, the proportion of residents who made fewer trips increased in July and August (+1.4 and +0.8 percentage points respectively), but decreased in September (-0.3 percentage points).

In the process of organizing locations, the Internet was used for 30.1% of trips (-0.1 percentage points), while this method became the main form of planning for 63.9% of trips abroad (-3.4 percentage points) and for 24.2% of trips directed to the territory of the state (+0.9 percentage points).
