Parents of backpacker, 19, found dead surrounded by dingoes hit out at order to cull feral dogs after dad exposes her ‘mistake’

The parents of a Canadian teenager who was found dead surrounded by a pack of wild dogs have decided to euthanize the dingoes.

Nineteen-year-old Piper James was found dead on a tourist beach on K’gari, a popular island off the coast of southeast Queensland, Australia.

Last week she set her alarm for a sunrise swim near the Maheno Wreck while on a dream trip with her best friend.

But Piper’s body was discovered that morning, surrounded and crushed by the dingoes that roam the island.

Authorities have now announced that they will kill the animals involved in her death.

Still, Piper’s family protested, saying the decision was the opposite of what their nature-loving daughter stood for.

Her father, Todd James, said: “We never wanted to euthanize dingoes and I don’t think Piper would support putting down or euthanizing animals because of the mistake she made in putting herself in this vulnerable position.”

Angela James, Piper’s mom, said that feral dogs being euthanized is the last thing their daughter would want.

She said ABC: “She loved all animals, no matter what,” Angela James told the TV station.

“She wouldn’t want anything to do with it.” [the dingoes]they were there first. She knew it.”

Dad Todd wrote on Facebook that he received a call over the weekend about the fate of the animals.

He posted: “Simply sad, heartbreaking information. We haven’t even received the final autopsy report!”

Inconclusive autopsy results mean officers still don’t know if Piper drowned or was killed in wild dogs.

Although water was found in Piper’s lungs, investigators warned it could take up to two months before tests confirm whether the 19-year-old drowned or was beaten to death by a dingo, her father said. 7News.

And even so, the family may still be without answers.

According to a spokesman for the Queensland Coroner’s Court, the most likely cause of Piper’s death is drowning.

They said: “The autopsy found physical evidence consistent with drowning and injuries consistent with a dingo bite.

“Antemortem dingo bite marks are unlikely to cause immediate death. There are extensive postmortem dingo bite marks.”

Piper’s father pushed for safety changes on the island, but added: “We never wanted any animal to get hurt.

“But by the same token, to be honest, I accept for the safety of the island that maybe the pack needed to be euthanized, not because of Piper, but because of how they were acting.

Rangers have been closely monitoring the dingoes since the incident and have seen “aggressive behaviour” within the pack, a spokesman for the Ministry of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation said.

They declared the predators roaming the island an “unacceptable risk to public safety”.
