Portuguese companies will surpass the record donation of 332 million euros in 2024, revealed in the 7th edition of this study by Informa D&B.
This year saw the largest number of legal entities: 74,487 companies, which corresponds to 19% of the corporate sector, the same tax rate as in 2023, but the average donation for companies will suffer 22%.
The retail and business services sector concentrates 51% of the total amount. The retail sector represents 25% of the total and is sold to most of the top companies (21% of the total) with an average donation of €5,300. Since business services, weigh less the number of doadoras (10% of the total), the forum responsible for 26% of the value, with an average donation of 11,500 euros for the company.
The bank and security guards, which are numerically less represented, stand out in terms of financial impact, contributing €25 million, seeking 8% of the total and receiving an average donation to society of €620 million – almost half of the institutions in the donor sector.
As large companies that weigh only 1% from donors, they represent 36% of the total amount with an average donation of 162 million euros and a donation tax of 70%. PMEs also show a significant participation rate, as do micro-enterprises, including a lower individual weight, representing 81% of the total number of workers.
Geographically, 38% of the largest companies (30% of value) are concentrated in the North region, but Greater Lisbon has a concentration of 51% of the total and the largest average donation to a company (15 million euros), reflecting the presence of large companies.
44% of companies have been doadoring for more than 20 years and account for 81% of doado’s value; 34% are family businesses with 25% of total donations.
Regularity also carries its own weight, so much so that 23% of doadores in 2024 also lived in the previous four years, and 79% of the value of 2024 was demonstrated by companies that did regularly in the last five years. Not in total, over the last five years 134 million companies are looking for 1.3 million euros.
Teresa Cardoso de Menezes, CEO of Informa D&B, states that “donations are in one way a practice supported by the state through sponsorship and fiscal benefits; but also a relevant document of non-depression financing of companies, knowing that what we do regularly represents a higher ESG score”.
