Ajit Pawar death: Mamata seeks SC-monitored probe, says ‘only court can be trusted’

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday expressed grief over the sudden death of Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, but demanded a Supreme Court-supervised probe into the matter.

“Only we have faith in the Supreme Court, no other agency. All other agencies are bought,” Banerjee said while addressing reporters.

Banerjee took X to express her grief, saying she was “deeply shocked and stunned by the sudden demise” of Ajit Pawar and his fellow passengers in the early morning accident. She said she felt a deep sense of loss from the sudden tragedy.

She also called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances of the accident. A chartered plane carrying Pawar, who was flying from Mumbai to Baramati ahead of local body meetings, crashed around 8:50 a.m. while attempting to land, killing all on board.

Pawar, 66, was a veteran politician and the longest-serving deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, known for his work in state finance and administration over several decades.
