In 2025, Metropolitan Carriage registered a total of 194 million transported passengers, and today the companies revealed subsequent records from the Public Prosecutor’s Office in all municipalities from the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML).
In a press release in Carris Metropolitana, the number of plots reached 5.8 million passengers “strengthening the daily response to regional mobility”, highlighting the significant growth expected until 2024 in municipalities such as Palmela (+26%), Moita (+23%), Cascais (+19%), Montijo (+17%) and Setúbal (+16%).
The year 2025 also marked a record number of passengers transported daily in subway cars on October 15, namely 763 million passengers. All-time highs were recorded at the end of the week, with 340.5 million passengers on Saturday 31 May and 310.3 million passengers on Sundays or weekends on 15 August.
Last year, Metro Carriage recorded a total of 90 million kilometers traveled.
In agreement with the company, all municipalities from the AML will share in the results, “more requests recorded on Sunday, Saturday and Sunday, highlighting the more regular use of public transport during the week”.

Growth until 2024 will be transversal to AML, with significant increases in Palmela (+26%), Moita (+23%), Cascais (+19%), Montijo (+17%) and Setúbal (+16%).

The operation of Metro Carris also includes links to municipalities that do not delegate responsibility and will directly manage local transport: Barreiro (TBC), Cascais (MobiCascais) and Lisboa (Carris).
