The authorities of the Russian Federation are now classifying as “extremely imprudent” the decision of the European Union (EU) to gradually ban its gas exports by gas or natural gas (LNG) from the territory of the Community from 2027.
Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov said he was “extremely imprudent with regard to countries’ economic interests,” according to Russian news agency Interfax.
The European decision, adopted by a qualified majority, with Hungary and Slovakia voting against, in addition to support from Bulgaria, will prevent the import of Russian LNG from the beginning of 2027 and gas-to-gas from the end of the same year, allowing the contracts to remain in place for ten years, a transitional period to “limit the impact” of our prices and markets.
The reduction of these discounts entails maximum fines of between 2.5 and 40 million euros in respect of individual consumers or businesses, up to a minimum of 3.5% of the total annual business volume of collective customers or 300% of the estimated business volume of a single transaction.
Meanwhile, the governments of Slovakia and Hungary announce that they are moving forward with a new regulation in line with the EU Court of Justiça, included in a plan called “REPowerEU” through which European officials want to eliminate Russian domestic fuels depending on it. date 2030.
