Carson Beck scored on a 3-yard run with 18 seconds left and No. 10 seed Miami earned a hometown shot at its first national championship since 2001 with a 31-27 victory over Mississippi in the Fiesta Bowl. The Hurricanes (13-2) dismantled their vaunted sixth-seeded Rebels defense in a wild fourth quarter and fell into a 27-24 hole after Trinidad Chambliss hit Dae’Quan Wright for a 24-yard touchdown pass with 3:13 left. Beck, who won a national title as a quarterback at Georgia, kept the Hurricanes calm in the middle of the storm and led them down the field for the game-winning score — and on Jan. 19, the national title in their hometown.
Miami will learn its CFP Championship opponent after Indiana and Oregon meet in the Peach Bowl on Friday, January 9.
