Prep Lecture: The National Football Foundation All-Star Game is set for December 20th

As if Simi Valley coach Jim Benkert didn’t have enough things to do, he took on the task of hosting the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame high-star games Dec. 20 at Simi Valley High School.

At 4 p.m., there will be a football game featuring players from the San Gabriel Chapter against the Coastal Valley Chapter. At 7, the Ventura County players will face Los Angeles County in an 11-man game.

Agoura’s Dustin Croick coaches the West team, which includes his standout quarterback Gavin Gray. Taft’s Thomas Randolph coaches an East team that has a strong linebacker group, including Michael Wynn Jr. from St. Genevieve.

Simi Valley High will be the site of the Dec. 20 All-Star football game.

Tickets are $10 and will help pay for the rising costs of All-Star games, from uniforms to insurance.

Benkert, one of the winningest coaches in state history with more than 300 victories, said he is determined to make it work.

“We’re trying to keep the All-Star Games alive,” he said. “If we don’t do it, nothing is.
