Prep Lecture: The Shaws enjoy an unforgettable basketball moment in Oak Park

Sometimes it can be hard when a high school coach has his son on the team, but then there are the unforgettable moments that make every second spent together magical. That was the moment Friday night for Oak Park basketball coach Aaron Shaw and his son, sophomore guard Grant Shaw.

At the buzzer, Grant made a three-pointer from the top of the key to give host Oak Park a 54-51 win over rival Agoura.

Then, for some reason unknown at the time, Grant ran in the opposite direction, followed by his teammates and the crazy Oak Park fans. So many people were celebrating and he ended up pushed into the foyer of the gym.

His father watched from the bench, who did not understand why his son was heading out of the gym. “The coaches were asking, ‘Where is he going?'” he said.

It turns out that a rush of people celebrating the forced Grant has entered the foyer. His father then reminded him to stay in the gym next time.

But make no mistake, Aaron won two Southern Section titles as a coach, and this moment ranks among the best.

“A proud father moment,” he said.
