Is Glenn Maxwell’s form a concern as Stars lose again?

Form doesn’t seem to matter much in T20 cricket as Glenn Maxwell’s form in the BBL would be worrying if it did.

He’s officially in the doldrums, and the Stars have joined him as they continue down a familiar path of over-promising and under-delivering.

In Thursday’s loss, the Sydney Sixers key player in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia in February failed again as the Melbourne Stars lost their third game in a row.

It never looked like beating the Sixers as they bowled out the Stars’ pitiful total of 128 with 17 balls remaining to set up a crucial clash against the Renegades at the Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.

But the only highlight of the night was the performance – or rather the non-performance – of Maxwell.

Maxwell lasted four balls before being caught at cover as he tried to hit Jack Edwards high on the mound looking over the bridge to the MCG.

His score was one. He has now hit that total in his first three innings of 2026 as he looks to recapture the form he was in when he suffered an ill-timed wrist injury in September last year.

Apart from an impressive 39 off 20 balls to beat Sydney Thunder in a run chase in Canberra on 28 December, Maxwell scored just five runs from the 14 balls he faced in his other four innings in the tournament.
