Texas defeated Texas Tech 10-4 in 2025 to win the first Women’s College World Series in program history.
Texas’ win was the third title in state history and the first since Texas A&M won in 1987. Let’s take a look at the states that have won the most Women’s College World Series since the competition began in 1982.
15 – California
When it comes to DI softball titles, California reigns supreme. Overall, UCLA had a lot of assists for California, 12 of which came the way of the Bruins. UCLA won the title in 1982, 1984, 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2010 and 2019 (1995 was the vacated year). At California State (1986), Fresno State (1998) and California State (2002), three other titles are considered.

10 – Arizona
Out west, Arizona is six titles behind California, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t had a ton of success. The Arizona Wildcats have won a total of eight championships in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2006 and 2007, so most of that success comes from the Arizona Wildcats. 2008 and 2011. The Arizona-based college has not made the finals since 2011.
8 – Oklahoma
Seven of the eight state titles have come from the Oklahoma Sooners in the last 11 years: 2013, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024. The other came in 2000. Patty Gasso led them all.

3 – Florida
In 2014 and 2015, the Florida Gators won back-to-back Women’s College World Series titles, becoming the first team in Florida to reach the pinnacle of college softball and the first college softball team not named Arizona or UCLA. Florida State made a comeback in 2018, winning the national championship for the first time in program history. The Seminoles have finished runner-up twice since then (2021, 2023).
3 – Texas
Texas A&M’s strong play in the 1980s led to its first two state titles: 1983 and 1987. The Aggies also finished as runners-up in the 1984 and 1986 championships. In 2025, Texas defeated Texas Tech to win the first WCWS title in program history and its third state title. Texas was runner-up in 2022 and 2024.

1 – Michigan, Washington, Alabama
All three of these states have three titles. The Michigan Wolverines denied UCLA a three-peat in 2005, and the Washington Huskies defeated the Florida Gators for their first state title in 2009. And finally, in 2012, the Alabama Crimson Tide beat Oklahoma to win their first championship.
