An upstate New York man is facing felony charges after authorities say he tried to disarm a New York State Police officer who responded to a domestic dispute at his residence.
Cagan Sodan, 25, attempted to grab an officer’s service weapon from its holster during a confrontation on Jan. 4, according to NYS police. The crash happened at a home on English Lane in Greene, NY around 3:31 p.m
State Police from the Norwich barracks responded to a report of a domestic dispute. When the trooper arrived, Sodan became uncooperative and combative, police said he said.
A police officer apprehended Sodan and took him into custody. Sodan suffered a hand injury when he punched a window before the trooper arrived, according to police. The soldier was not injured during the encounter.
Sodan was charged with attempted robbery in the second degree, a Class C felony, and attempted assault in the second degree, a Class E felony. He also faces misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment, fourth-degree criminal mischief and obstruction of government.
After processing, Sodan was transported to the Chenango County Jail for centralized arraignment. He was remanded in custody until his next court date on January 8.
Greene is located in Chenango County, about 60 miles south of Syracuse.
