Matt Prater injury: Bills likely to sign new player for playoffs

The Buffalo Bills may need to sign a kicker for the playoffs.

Matt Prater, 41, returned to the Bills lineup after being inactive for the past two games with a right quad injury. In the first half of the game, Prater made all three extra points and his comeback seemed to be going well.

That changed in the second half when the CBS commentators announced that Prater was out for the rest of the game with a right quad injury. It’s not known exactly when Prater re-aggravated his quad, but it almost guarantees the Bills will be in the market for a kicker this week.

Prater joined the Bills just before the team’s Week 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens. Since joining the team, Prater is 18-of-20 on field goals and 43-of-46 on extra points.

Buffalo replaced Prater with Michael Badgley the past two weeks, but he was released after he had a crucial extra point blocked in the previous loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Badgley also missed several kickoffs and missed an extra point in Buffalo’s win over the Cleveland Browns. Buffalo is unlikely to return Badgley based on his struggles.

The Bills have a big decision on the horizon with the playoffs next weekend. Look for the team to work out multiple kickers to find the best solution while Prater tries to work his way back.
