Mitch Trubisky and the Buffalo Bills gave the New York Jets several opportunities to score a touchdown in Week 18 on Sunday, but came up empty on the day.
In doing so, the Jets made NFL history that no team wants to make. New York finished the 2025 season without a catch over 17 games. It is the first time the team has gone hitless since it became a stat in 1933.
The previous low for interceptions in a season came in 2018 when the San Francisco 49ers recorded two interceptions.
New York had at least two opportunities to make an impact on Sunday. The first came on a Trubisky pass that was thrown behind Keon Coleman. It hit Coleman and bounced into the air, but ended up on the turf.
The second opportunity came when Trubisky threw the ball right to linebacker Quincy Williams. Williams couldn’t have asked for a bigger gift, but the defender showed why he plays defense when it bounced off his hands and into the ground.
Outside of those two plays, Trubisky had an outstanding game. He completed 22 of 29 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns in Buffalo’s 35–8 victory. He finished with a 142.1 QB rating and found 10 different pass catchers in the win.
New York’s loss dropped the team to 3-14 on the season. First-year Jets head coach Aaron Glenn seems safe after a three-win season, but the defensive-minded coach has a lot of work to do after his first year in New York.
