The National Weather Service issued a snow advisory at 3:08 a.m. Friday until 4:15 a.m. for northeast Suffolk.
“At 3:05 a.m., a band of snow was along a line extending from 6 miles northeast of Calverton to 10 miles south of Westerly, moving east at 30 mph,” the weather service said.
Localities affected by the warning include Southold, Mattituck, Plum Island, Gardiners Island, Shelter Island, Greenport, Peconic, Cutchogue, Laurel and Orient.
The weather service says: “Conditions can deteriorate quickly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snowy roads. Slow down and wait for your destination.”
